White Cement Production to Get BoostThe UAE’s white cement production capacity will be enhanced by further 600000 t through a new plant in Fujairah, with the commissioning scheduled for late 2013.
India’s JK Cements along with the Fujairah Government is setting up the plant at an estimated cost of AED 550 million. There is also the option to switch to grey cement production, for which the capacity will be 1 Mt/a. The plant will have the flexibility to produce 100 % white cement, a mix of white cement and grey cement or 100 % grey cement depending upon the market demand. Thus, the company plans to cater to the demand in the region as well as to the neighbouring countries through this manufacturing facility. For the new plant, named JK Cement Works (Fujairah), the promoters have a technical collaboration with Japan’s Taheiyo Engineering Corporation. It is also JK Cement’s first overseas manufacturing interest. JK Cements is the second largest manufacturer of white cement in India with an annual capacity of 400000 t (11/2011). |
