Magnezit Group – Converter Lining Record of 4985 Heats

Record service life — 4985 heats – was demonstrated by Magnezit Group refractories in the lining of the 300-t converter №4 at the JSC ЕVRAZ ZSМК/RU.
As it was pointed out by the Chief Steelmaker of JSC ЕVRАZ ZSМК, Valeri Sokolov, during recent years many metallurgical plants were seeking for reducing costs by increasing the service life of thermal units, e.g. converters for steel melting. During the recent 10 years service life of 300-t converters at the JSC EVRAZ ZSМК increased considerably from 1560 up to 3800 heats. Lining of converter no. 4 with refractories of Magnezit Group was installed in December 2010; the converter was introduced on 1 January 2011 and brought to a standstill on 18 September 2011. During non-stop work of the thermal unit about 1,545 Mt of steel was produced and a record service life of the lining was achieved. The key reason for achieving such record rates of lining service lifes lies in high-quality refractory materials as well as in compliance with the recommended procedures of operation and maintenance, explained Technical Director of Magnezit Group Lev Axelrod. Magnezit offers to its partners all-inclusive service of thermal unit linings: complete deliveries of necessary high-quality refractory materials, engineering and operational services. The strategy of Magnezit Group is aimed at increasing volumes of production of novel refractory materials with high level of processing. Such approach guarantees full compliance to the growing requirements of their partners and successful competitiveness on the market. Projects of innovative renewal and large-scale modernization of the whole production cycle, implemented at the moment, permit the Group to keep leading positions in domestic and world refractory industry in the long run too (12/2011).
