Elkem Launches Global Climate Roadmap: Reducing Emissions towards Net Zero while Growing Supplies to the Green Transition
Elkem/NO, a global leader in silicon-based advanced materials, announces a new climate roadmap detailing how the company plans to develop its business in line with the aim of the Paris agreement of limiting global warming to well below 2 °C. The company aims to reduce its total fossil CO2-emissions by 28 % from 2020–2031 while growing its supplies to the green transition – thereby delivering a 39 % improvement of its product carbon footprint in the same period. Elkem’s long-term goal is net zero emissions by 2050.

FLSmidth to Acquire thyssenkrupp’s Mining Business
FLSmidth/DK and thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions AG (a fully owned subsidiary of thyssenkrupp AG/DE) have reached an agreement that FLSmidth will acquire thyssenkrupp’s Mining business (TK Mining) for a total consideration (enterprise value) of EUR 325 million. Closing of the transaction is expected in H2 2022 and is subject to customary approvals from relevant authorities.

New Start for Trade Fairs in Bavaria: Messe München Looks to the Future with Optimism
Trade fair events will once again be possible in the Free State of Bavaria/DE as of 1 September 2021. This new start is an important signal for the Bavarian economy and the events industry. As early as July, the TrendSet Symposium will take place in Munich as a pilot trade fair. The comprehensive hygiene and infection protection concept will be implemented there for the first time, with other events such as IAA MOBILITY, EXPO REAL, Outdoor by ISPO and productronica to follow in Munich in fall.
ceramitec, originally scheduled for May 2021, has been postponed to June 2022 on account of the reduced possibilities for worldwide travel. On a smaller scale, the ceramitec conference + exhibition will take place. Initially the ceramitec conference + exhibition was announced for 22–23 June 2021. But end of April, the Organizing Committee decided to approach all active participants to shift the date to 15–16 September 2021 to get more visitors to come to Munich. Working together with Fraunhofer HTL/DE, IAPK/DE and the Expert Group CIM/DE as partners, CERAMIC APPLICATIONS will organise a two-track conference in FORUM 1 and FORUM 2, which will be complemented by AM Ceramics organised by Lithoz/AT in FORUM 3.

Organizer Reed Exhibitions made this decision in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic after discussions with exhibitors and partners. Uncertainties surrounding travel restrictions were also a deciding factor due to the international nature of ALUMINIUM.
