Dr Andreas Buhr Received the Theodore J. Planje – St. Louis Refractories Award
The Theodore J. Planje – St. Louis Refractories Award is presented annually “for the purpose of recognizing and honouring distinguished achievement in the refractories field.” Dr Buhr was honoured to join this select group of refractory leadership this past March, at the 53rd Annual Symposium on Refractories, St. Louis Section.
RHI Update on the Planned Combination with Magnesita
RHI/AT filed for merger control clearance with the competition authorities in Brazil at the end of March and in Europe at the beginning of May and expects to have a clearer picture of the outcome of the proceedings around the end of the first half of 2017. Based on their financial statements for the year 2016, the combined revenue of RHI and Magnesita amounted to approximately EUR 2,5 billion.

The US Aluminum Association Released 2017 North America Aluminum Industry Plant and Press Directories
The US Aluminum Association released the 2017 edition of the North America Aluminum Industry Plant Directory and the North America Aluminum Industry Extrusion Press Directory. The Plant Directory covers 485 plants while the Extrusion Press Directory covers 204 plants, operating 538 extrusion presses, in North America as of April 2017. This updates previous directories last published in 2014. The directories provide plant location, types of products produced, contact information and affiliated websites.
Currently Biggest Contract for TRIMET Automotive Safeguards the Future as well as Jobs
A total of some 850 employees produce high-quality die-cast components for the automotive, electrical and machine construction industries in Harzgerode/DE. Among other things, TRIMET Automotive supplies engine blocks, transmission components, chassis parts and structural elements for well-known automobile brands. Starting next year, TRIMET Harzgerode will produce up to 1 million finished aluminium clutch housings annually for a well-known transmission manufacturer.

Randy C. Skagen, Vice President and General Manager, Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc./US, has been appointed President of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) for 2017–2018. Randy Skagen succeeds Wendell L. Carter, Vice President and General Manager, ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor/US. AIST announced its 2017–2018 Executive Committee and Board of Directors during AISTech 2017, the organization's annual conference and exposition, which was held 8–11 May 2017 in Nashville/US.
