Abstract

Calculating the temperature field in the walls of industrial kilns and the heat flux loss with the aid of computer programms has since long been standard practice. However, it is also possible to optimise the material choice according to exact criteria. The criterion for doing this, are minimum overall costs. In this paper suitable mathematical principles as well as a computer programme will be presented. In the dialog with the programme the designer is guided from the point of inputting operating conditions to dimensioning the walls. Additionally, he can use the experiences made during this process. Practical applicationswill be presented in this paper.
