Abstract
The effect of Calcium Aluminate Cement (CAC) fneness and mineralogy on workability and high temperature performance of two commercial available CAC was investigated. A medium CAC with low C A content and a high specifc surface area leads to improved fow and higher strength after fring a regular cement castable with fire-clay. A higher specifc surface of the CAC enhances sintering of the calcium aluminates with the freclay aggregates. Improved refractory castable properties of the fine ground CAC can be attributed to a higher crystalline phase content and increased hibonite formation at high temperatures.
