Refractory Materials Used for the Investment Casting Process and their Infuence on Ceramic Shell Properties

Today, many different metals are being produced using the Investment Casting (IC) process. To ensure final high quality castings it is necessary to know the infuencing parameters of all the different steps during the whole process including the wax pattern, the ceramic shell and the final casted part. The research work described within this paper is about the ceramic shell, the parameters that need to be taken into account during the whole processing and the possibilities to evaluate and influence them in a proper way. The main parameters discussed are the casting dimensional accuracy, the hot properties of the shell and the shell building performance itself.
