Closing Material Loops: New Opportunities for the Refractories Industry

Resource and material efficiency are becoming increasingly important in high-temperature industries. Raw material prices, environmental requirements and the need to reduce CO₂ emissions are increasing the pressure to keep valuable materials in circulation for longer.

Refractory materials offer significant potential in this regard. According to estimates by TU Bergakademie Freiberg, up to 28 million tonnes of used refractory materials are generated worldwide every year. Valuable components such as alumina, magnesia and silicon carbide can be processed and reused as secondary raw materials.

This is also changing requirements along the value chain. Take-back, sorting and processing are gaining importance and creating new business opportunities for raw material suppliers, refractory manufacturers, recyclers and technology providers.

Circularity Requires Collaboration

Raw material suppliers, refractory manufacturers, recyclers, plant manufacturers and users need to work together to keep valuable materials in circulation. ceramitec brings together precisely these players along the value chain.

In 2028, circularity will be addressed both in the conference program and in the exhibition. The joint stand “From Recycling to Raw Materials” will give companies the opportunity to present their solutions for take-back, processing and secondary raw materials to a relevant professional audience with minimal organizational effort.

Show how your solutions contribute to a circular economy at ceramitec 2028 and meet potential customers in Munich from April 25–27, 2028.
