Refractory Manufacturer RATH Opens New Joint Venture Plant in India

With the official opening of its new production site in Visakhapatnam, India, in September 2025, the RATH Group has reached another important milestone in its international growth strategy: the joint venture with RATH Avanee enables an expansion of production capacities and strengthens the global presence of the internationally active refractory manufacturer.

After a construction period of just under 18 months, the RATH Group officially opened its new production site in southeast India in mid-September together with its Indian joint venture partner RATH Avanee. The new joint venture plant underscores the consistent implementation of the RATH Group’s global expansion plans. The Group is now represented on three continents (Europe, the USA, and Asia) with a total of eight production sites, positioning itself even more independently of local market influences. “With the most modern refractory plant in India, we are strengthening our delivery capability through expanded production capacities and shorter lead times – a significant benefit for our customers. We can now serve the important growth market of Asia and our customers worldwide more quickly, more efficiently, and, thanks to our geographical proximity, in a more resource-efficient manner – while naturally maintaining the high RATH quality standards you have come to expect,” emphasized Andreas Pfneiszl, Speaker of the Executive Board, RATH Group, during the opening ceremony.

The new plant is part of the RATH Avanee Private Limited joint venture. Production in Visakhapatnam has been gradually ramping up since March 2025. Around 5000 t of industrial fireclay were produced in a bogie hearth kiln and successfully sold on the Indian market. Another tunnel kiln was commissioned at the end of July 2025. With the commissioning of the additional kiln, the total annual capacity for refractory production will amount to around 20 000 t.
