Construction of a 300 000 t/a chemical alumina plant

The plant will supply 100 000 t/a to Antam and 200 000 t/a to Showa Denko to replace the alumina supplies from Showa Denko’s Yokohama facility in Japan. Completion of the plant is expected by December 2013, and start-up is targeted for January 2014, at a cost of USD 450 million. It is expected to produce alumina grades including commodity and calcined products. The non-metallurgical grade alumina market totalled  around 6 Mt in 2008.  Plant operator is PT Indonesia Chemical Alumina which is owned 80 % by Antam and 20 % by Showa Denko.  (09/2010)
