International Laboratory for New Technologies for Refractories and Metallurgy

This was decided by Rector Prof. Dr Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht on 11 May together with WUST-President Prof. Hongwei Ni. The goal is to promote international collaborative research in the field of advanced technology for metallurgy and refractories engineering and their application and to establish joint research laboratory structures. On the side of Freiberg University of Mining and Technology, the Institutes of Iron and Steel Technology, Geotechnics and of Ceramics, Glass and Building Materials Engineering are involved in the scheme. Laboratory partner is the State Key Laboratory of Refractories and Metallurgy in China. With another three Chinese elite universities, Rector Prof. Barbknecht extended cooperation during his trip to China from 5–11 May 2018. The signed agreements include renewal of the 4+2-Programme with the China University of Mining and Technology – CUMT in Peking on 7 May. The programme enables graduates of CUMT to enrol on almost all master and diploma study courses at Freiberg University of Mining and Technology. It is already the 3rd extension to the agreement originally concluded in 2011. Since then, 39 graduates of CUMT have studied in Freiberg. With the China University of Geoscience – CUGB, also in Peking, the Rector has agreed on 8 May the development of a Joint Masters Agreement in Business Management, specifically in the course International Business in Developing and Emerging Markets. For the joint exchange, there are also plans to hold international academic conferences on topics such as international business, international resources and environmental economics, management and law as well as to arrange the exchange of guest scientists for research. Another stop on the trip was the China University of Geoscience Wuhan. With this visit, Freiberg University has underscored the importance of this cooperation partner for the international network in teaching and research.
