Joint Manufacturing of Ferrosilicon Aluminium

In addition, Executive Director Ji-yong Kim and Kazakhstan Vice Prime Minister Asset Issekeshev met and agreed to proactively cooperate in joint projects including provision of stable electricity. According to the MOA, POSCO and Zaman Group will each invest 60 % and 40 % respectively to start construction in 2011 of a FeSiAl manufacturing factory in the Ekibastus region, located on the northeastern side of Kazakhstan. POSCO plans to start production at approximately 45 000 t/ay, and increase to 400 000 t/a later on. With the establishment of this joint venture, POSCO will now be able to secure a stable FeSiAl source which previously depended entirely on imports. Also, the company plans to utilize the resources of the Kazakhstan and CIS regions to proactively promote material development projects at POSCO family level. Meanwhile, at the Korea-Kazakhstan Business Forum held in April, POSCO entered into an MOU for a joint venture with UKTMP, a titanium sponge manufacturer, and is planning to establish a slab manufacturing factory as soon as possible.
