Orix to Acquire Majority Stake in Asahi Fiber Glass

Asahi Fiber Glass is Japan’s first dedicated glass fiber manufacturer, established in 1956 through joint investment by Asahi Glass Co. and Owens Corning Co. Currently, the company has three pillars of business: glass wool, building materials and construction operation. Its main pillar, glass wool, controls approximately 40 % of the Japanese market. The company handles glass wool products for thermal insulation, noise absorption and other uses. Orix expects demand for glass wool insulation to increase in response to heightening concerns over environmental measures related to private housing. Orix will participate in the overall management of Asahi Fiber Glass through the establishment of a joint management system. (3/2013)
