Siemens Establishes Competence Center for Metallurgical Plants in Shanghai

at the inauguration of its new engineering and production center in the Minhang District, Shanghai, China. With an investment of USD 80 million, Siemens has expanded its local manufacturing base and R&D center for the entire chain of steel processing. Here, more than 450 Chinese engineers will provide lifecycle and modernization services and develop leading plant components for local markets and export business. “The business for modernizing and optimizing existing plants is outpacing the business for new plants,“ Auer said. Siemens VAI has systematically expanded its portfolio for this modernization and service market. With the additional 9000 m2 that this new facility provides, Siemens VAI’s manufacturing and assembly capabilities are now greatly improved (12/2011).
