Two Short Courses on Furnaces and Fired Heaters

They are: • “Energy Efficient Design and Operation of furnaces and Fired Heaters“  on 17–18 November 2010,  • “Improving Furnace Operation and Design through the Use of Thermal Modelling“ on 19 November 2010. (Friday) Prof. John Ward is a part-time Professor of Energy Technology at the University of Glamorgan. He has previously worked in the UK steel industry and has held academic appointments at Cranfield and the Open Universities before joining Glamorgan as Head of Mechanical Engineering in 1989. He has nearly 40 years experience of working in the areas of combustion, heat transfer and furnaces. He has undertaken a wide range of sponsored research contracts in these areas and has published over 120 papers in the open literature. He was awarded the David Gunn memorial medal by the Combustion Engineering Association in 2002 for his work in the field. Dr. Bob Tucker has over 30 years experience in furnaces and high temperature combustion. He has particular expertise in thermal design and modelling having coordinated many collaborative R&D projects in this area in British Gas and latterly in his own company Zerontec Ltd. He has many publications to his name including a book (Modelling of Gas-Fired Furnaces and Boilers , McGraw Hill, 1990). He is an external fellow of Glamorgan University in the UK.
