World Steel Figures 2012

The major steel-producing countries in 2012 were China with 716,5 Mt, followed by Japan with 107,2 Mt, United States 88,7 Mt, India 77,6 Mt and Russia with 70,4 Mt. The top five steel-roducing companies in 2012 were ArcelorMittal with 93,6 Mt, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation with 47,9 Mt, Hebei Group with 42,8 Mt, Baosteel Group with 42,7 Mt, and POSCO with 39,9 Mt.  The first five countries with the highest apparent steel use per capita in 2012 were South Korea with 1114,1 kg, followed by Taiwan, China with 769,8 kg, the Czech Republic with 565 kg, Japan with 506 kg and Austria with 484,9 kg (Source: worldsteel).
