Ore-bauxite Factory to Open in April

At present, the Tan Rai Aluminum Bauxite Project has completed around 90 % of its targeted construction. With an investment capital of almost USD 700 million, the Tan Rai complex, located in Lam Dong Province, aims to produce 600000 t/a of alumina and will increase its output to 1,2 Mt by 2015. The duration of the project, run by the Viet Nam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), will be 30 years. Vinacomin is also developing the Nhan Co Bauxite Mining and Refinery Complex in Dak Nong. The complex is expected to churn out its first products early next year. With these operations Vietnam hopes to become a competitive alumina exporter worldwide. The country is currently recognized as having the 3rd largest bauxite reserves in the world after Guinea and Australia, but most of the mineral remains untapped and concentrated in the country’s northern mountains and the Central Highlands (2/2012).
