The European cement industry appointed its new President and Vice-President at its General Assembly in Helsinki/FI. Raoul de Parisot, Advisor to the Chairman and CEO Vicat, will take over as President from Gonçalo Salazar Leite, Vice-Chairman SECIL. Isidoro Miranda Fernandez, CEO Lafargeholcim Spain, will assume the position of Vice-President.

The terms of “high performance” and “high cost-effectiveness” for refractories are so familiar. However, to answer questions like what the real meaning of high performance is, how to represent it, what the evaluation criterion is and how to realize high performance and meanwhile high cost-effectiveness seems to be not that easy without thinking in depth.
The first heating cycle of MgO-containing refractory castables is usually considered a challenge by the producers of such products due to the significant mass loss, associated with magnesium hydroxide decomposition between 350–450 °C, that might result in their spalling or even explosion.
To be able to expand the product portfolio SLOVMAG/SK introduced the so called hot technology, which is based on a binder system consisting of a complex mixture of polycyclic aromatic and heterocyclic hydrocarbons. Applying a special heat treatment, the content of the carcinogenic benz(a)pyrene in the binder is drastically reduced.
