Welcome to the Refractories Centre of Excellence at Lucideon

Freshly established this year and with kit delivery still underway, Lucideon’s site in Stone/UK now hosts a complete end-to-end capability suitable for the scale and complexity of large refractories projects. With support from the FISC (Foundation Industries Sustainability Consortium), Lucideon has invested in bespoke capabilities for conventional and novel testing protocols, ready to support industry to … Weiterlesen …

Evaluation of Test Methods for Refractory Bricks: A Comparison and Validity Study of some Cold Crushing Strength Standards

Following Part 1 of this publication series which dealt with the procedure and the determination of precision of Cold Crushing Strength (CCS) data on several refractory brick grades, part 2 deals with the comparison of ISO 10059-1/EN 993-5 and ASTM C133. This includes the influence of specimen shape (50 mm cylinders and 50 mm cubes) … Weiterlesen …

Thermal Management of Heating Processes – Measuring Heat Transfer Properties

The design of any heating process is based on a careful thermal management of heat transfer. A necessary prerequisite for this thermal management is the precise knowledge of thermal material properties. Need for improvements exist especially at high temperatures, where measurements of quantities like thermal conductivity or specific heat are difficult.

A New Device for Measuring Hot Thermal Shock, Thermal Cycling and Other High Temperature Properties of Refractories

The exact knowledge of the material properties of refractories in the region of their, usual very high, application temperatures is the key to their successful application as well as to the development of new refractory materials. A particularly important question is the behaviour of a refractory against thermal shock and thermal cycling. While many techniques and standards deal with changes between high temperature and room temperature, the more realistic load is often the fast change between two high temperatures.

Strain Fields’ Measurements: Novel Engineering Approach to Enrich the Characterisation of Refractories with Non-Linear Mechanical Behaviour

The present work aimed to apply digital image correlation (DIC) used for kinematic fields’ measurements as a support for the experimental characterization of refractory materials with specific non-linear behaviour.
