Advanced Creep Testing of Refractories Providing New Insight into Material Behaviour

Feasible high temperature testing approaches for ordinary ceramic refractory materials are of importance to understand material behaviour in service and further facilitate the material development. Aside from the wedge splitting test and modified shear test applied to investigate the tensile and shear failure respectively, an advanced high temperature compressive creep testing device was developed to characterize the creep behaviour of ordinary ceramic refractory materials.

High-Alumina Chemically Bonded Refractory Castables Containing Liquid or Powdered Binders

Phosphate-bonded refractories may be applied as repairing materials due to their fast setting time and good thermomechanical properties in the 30–1000 °C temperature range. Phosphoric acid and Monoaluminium Phosphate (MAP) solutions are commonly used as main binder additives in chemically bonded compositions, but powdered phosphate compounds can also be applied for this purpose.

Novel Zirconate Based Moulds for the Investment Casting of Titanium Alloy Melts

Investment casting allows the near net shape production of complex cast parts, but the investment casting of high melting and highly reactive titanium alloy melts is very difficult. Calcium zirconate (CaZrO3) is a novel ceramic refractory material, which is particularly stable in a highly reducing atmosphere and in contact with extremely reducing titanium alloy melts such as Ti6Al4V.

Impact of Magnesia Grain Size on the In Situ Spinel Formation in Al2O3–MgO–C Refractories

In order to evaluate the effect of magnesia grain size on spinel formation process, four compositions with different dead burned magnesia grain sizes along with fused alumina and graphite were prepared. After pressing, samples were tempered at 220 °C and coked under reducing atmosphere at 1600 °C. Permanent Linear Change (PLC) and physical properties including Bulk Density (BD) and Apparent Porosity (AP) were measured.

Marcheluzzo Ceramics Supplies New Dryer for Refractories Production

Marcheluzzo Ceramics, located in Caldogno, Vicenza/IT, develops and supplies plants for drying and environment control in the production of sanitaryware,
ceramic insulators, refractories and heavy clay ceramics. Marcheluzzo Ceramics has recently started up a dryer supplied to Eco Inter S.r.l., a well-known Italian producer of refractories for the ceramic and food industries. The company is located in the Novara Province, in an area where ceramic tradition reached highest levels of quality and technology for tableware, sanitaryware and refractory production in the past.

The New Imerys Aluminates Division

Imerys, the world leader in mineral-based specialities for industry, announces the creation of a new division: Imerys Aluminates. To better serve the customers of both Kerneos and Imerys Refractory Minerals, the expertise of the two businesses have been combined into one entity, Imerys Aluminates.
